Friday Inspiration: Home Edition

I set out to do another Friday inspiration post today because I really don't have any time to do a more dedicated post with my own pictures that have yet to be taken specifically for a post. I was just going to pull pretty images off of my Tumblr again, but then I decided that I could be a little more relevant to my thought process as of late. I feel like I'm constantly thinking and dreaming about houses and decor and all that good stuff. I know that we'll be at this apartment for probably another year, which is okay. It really is a nice place in a perfect location, but it doesn't exactly meet my creative interior decor needs, which isn't the worst thing in the world, but I cannot wait to get a true home of my own to do as I please with it (and note that I talk about me rather than us-Tanner and I- because we have come to this unspoken agreement that I'm kind of in charge of home decor, I let him hang his Batman poster inside of our closet but until he has his own room for music/Batman stuff there won't be too many Batman themed decorations visible inside our home).
So anyways, here's some random inspiring images that I pulled off of my Pinterest! I would love to implement some of these ideas hopefully sometime soonish in our future. Someday I WILL have a clawfoot bathtub. Enjoy, and have a fantastic weekend!

Vintage Mirror Makeover

It's been an awfully gloomy couple of weeks here in Minnesota. I'm getting really tired of the rain and of studying for my impending state nursing boards coming up next week. It will be such a relief to get them done with. Then I can really clean out all my school stuff. When I graduated I recycled 2 large boxes just of papers from school. I still have lots of other nursing school related things that I can't wait to get out of our cluttered apartment as soon as possible.

Anywhoo, between studying and editing wedding photos I've been trying to do some fun activities that I've been wanting to do for a while. One of them is learning how to sew, and all the further I've gotten is getting my machine tuned up.. so I've got some progress yet to go with that one.

I have had this mirror for a couple of months now. It was an awesome find in my great aunt's basement who recently passed away. Her husband used to do wedding decorations including bridal veils and what not, he was talented! So this mirror he used for the brides to look in on their wedding day. I can't quite place the year but it's definitely an old mirror. I would guess from the 60's at some point in time? It has held up great- although the paper backing has taken some hits. It's a big mirror (and heavy too might I add that... my arms are sore today from carrying it by myself up and down from our apartment yesterday), and nowadays to find a mirror of this quality and size would probably be a couple hundred dollars. Much of my furniture has a black finish to it and I wanted to have this mirror match! The black looks so good on it, I'm really happy with the results. While we were spray painting we realized that it looked cool to have just hints of gold peeking through the black, so we left it like that. I'm digging it.

Living Quarters

Until I got married last year, I had never moved in my entire life. My parents moved with out me at one point last year and allowed me to live in the old house until they could figure out what to do with it. That was an odd expierence. The house wasn't huge by any means but it was plenty big for one person plus a cat and a dog on the weekdays (we sort of had joint custody of the family dog in a way- I was home more often during the weekdays so I took care of her then, and my parents brought her to their new house on the weekends).

I definitely miss living with them a LOT. Especially my cat because she's my baby. When we moved into our apartment last year, they had to go live full time at my parents new house (which they do love it there so that's good), as our apartment does not allow animals. If they did, I would probably try to persuade my parents to let me keep the cat. But I do still get to see her now and again when I visit my parents.

So currently we are in an apartment in St. Paul. It's located right by Como Zoo and the State Fair, which is awesome because we can walk so many places. We are also right by Rosedale Mall/Shopping center which is also awesome, but maybe not so much for my wallet. Our apartment is really not too bad for an apartment, I've put a million holes in the wall to decorate as we can't paint any of the walls. We will probably be here for a while yet. Buying a house isn't in our immediate future. My husband is going onto grad school so we don't really want to buy anything before we know where we'll both be working.

Most of these pictures are from last year, we have made some changes as well but I'm sure I'll have many more posts featuring my DIY decor.

Two vintage trunks I got from my neighbor serve as a TV stand for now.. I'm hoping to at some point cedar line them and use them for blanket storage/ottomans!

My favorite lamp- a vintage find from a thrift store in Arkansas!

Thanks for reading & I hope you have a lovely day!
